Friday Program – October 2, 2015

9:00 am – 2:00 pm Research At The Library – Library Staff will be available to answer questions concerning the Library's collections and their use. Experienced researchers will be available to answer questions, provide individual assistance to beginners and to offer strategies for difficult genealogical problems. Conference registration is not required to attend the event at the library.

Joint Fall Conference, Saturday, October 3, 2015

A joint conference with the Virginia Genealogy Society will take place on Saturday, October 3. The conference is entitled: West Virginia: History, Records & Research Strategies. The speaker will be Barbara Vines Little. Barbara is a professional genealogist whose interest is in Virginia research, brick wall problems and complete genealogies. Registration begins at 8:30 am, followed by opening remarks from 9:15-9:30 am, “WV Research” at 9:30 am. A break at 10:30 am, “Resources for WV Researchers” will be held at 11:00 am followed by lunch. There will be two presentations after lunch starting at 1:30 pm with “In Defense of the Western Frontier” and “WV Court Records” at 3:00 pm with a break between the two. Brochures are now available at the Archives and History located in the Culture Center.

Registration fee for VGS/MYHF Members is $44.00, Non-members $55.00. After September 19, add $10.00. Please call the Archives and History (304-558-0230) to request a brochure or to register. You may join the Mining Your History Foundation to get the reduced price of $44.00.

Vendors of books, software, forms and other items of interest to researchers will be available all day on Saturday. Be sure to visit them during the breaks. There will also be a Freebie Table with catalogs and brochures from genealogical businesses and organizations as well as door prizes.
